I popped into the local charity shop to make a donation of some of dear son Branduff's too-short trousers. That boy is growing! Already taller than me, and I'm 5'7".
While there, I had a quickie look around, and saw some things in a shelf that caught my eye.
First of all, there was a small Blue Willow patterned ceramic tea jar, which was a smaller version of one I bought about 15 years ago. However, this one was marked Mason's Patent Ironstone China. There's more information about the company here:
http://www.janicepaull.com/ironstone/ironstone.htm
But the item that I thought was a real find was the Fibre China Glass small sauce server or milk jug by Lawley's of Regent Street, London, W1. Lawley's were a chain of china and glassware shops founded by Edgar E. Lawley (1889-1977).
This particular vessel has a wide and shallow shape, which is not as typical for current milk jugs/pitchers and is a bit too small to be a typical gravy boat. I will probably use it for a combination of things because I just love the color, design and shape of this little server. I'm just not the type of person to leave an item like this on the shelf and unused. I do wish it was marked with a date.
If you are reading this and have more information on the pattern or date of the pieces shown, please leave me a message.
Thanks!
Kathy the teawife
