Goldfinch Bath

Hello, folks! Branduff and I have finally returned from our long summer vacation in our new home in Loveland, Colorado. Niall seemed to be very happy to have us back. He had been living off whatever was remaining in the kitchen cupboards, fridge and freezer. I think he was thrilled that his cook was home. LOL!

The summer is quickly slipping away here in England . . . a big difference from the mid-90-highs that Loveland has been experiencing over the last week. However, there have been truly lovely days peeking through the grayness and rain showers over here in Surrey.

Some of our little friends still enjoying the remaining summer days are these gorgeous goldfinch, which Niall snapped having a bath on the flat roof over our laundry room. This area also has a tendency to ice up in the winter, and I can imagine the robins having a skate around at that time. 

While our beloved goldfinch were having a swim, our least favorite birds, the starlings, showed up to bully them out of the way. The starlings are also incredibly greedy and grabby at the bird feeders. They apparently are good at eating pesky insects in the lawn, so I suppose we have to put up with their Orc-like ways!
