The English cottage garden is full of
many perennials, plants that return each year to flower. Some
of the cottage favorites include digitalis (fox glove), lupins,
penstemon, delphinium and geraniums, all shown in my perennial
bed above. |

One of the medium to tall perennials
is the penstemon. While the digitalis blooms in the early summer,
the penstemon waits until the middle to late summer to blossom.
There is so much variety of color, from white to pink to purple
to scarlet. And penstemons tend to produce more succession of
flowers, until the first frost. They are very easy to grow from
cuttings, and you will find that they spread in the garden very
easily. A super plant for the English Cottage Garden!
